6th Grade Classwork
___WEEK 1 -- Introduce course & instructor, check attendance lists, seating chart. Bring to class everyday: agenda & hand sanitizer. Discuss emergency drills. Expectations for LM Google accounts: These accounts are created by Linn-Mar for students' educational use -- to be used for educational purposes. Distribute each student's log in information for LM network, Google account, and PowerSchool (our grading website).
WEEK 2 -- Become familiar with navigation & accounts, signing into the Linn-Mar network, saving to the U-Drive, downloading Word document and/or digital image into personal U-Drive, and navigating. Take a brief quiz over basic classroom expectations for computers.

Introduction to touch keyboarding. Begin work in free online typing tutorial, Typing Web. Students work on skills, experiencing actual touch typing on the home row keys. The intention is they will have an interest in continuing to develop their ability to touch type.

WEEK 3 -- Complete discussion on scavenger hunt & safety. Quiz over major concepts. Review done in class. Generally transition time between Safety Unit and Digital Image Unit.
WEEK 4 -- Create a public user name (screen name) based on personal interests. Explore school-supported (subscription) websites at Iowa AEA Online. This collection is reliable for student research; and we have purchased the rights to use it through an Iowa AEA subscription. Use online resources, digital images, and the online citation machine, EasyBib for giving credit. Major emphasis on the concepts of getting permission from the (copyright) owner and giving credit for work.

WEEK 5 -- PRESENTATIONS -- Create Prezi account using Linn-Mar Google information and our chosen screen names. Learning basic navigation & concepts of creating a Prezi. at Prezi (dot) com. Prezi's claim to fame is the zooming feature.
Assignment requires ALL information to come from Culture Grams in Iowa AEA Online, working with a partner, and giving credit using correct format. (Either use the automatic citation or plug information into EasyBib. Students will include the grading requirements in their Prezi before submitting. Prezi is available for your viewing at home if you would like to see your student's work.

Week 6 -- Introduction to surveys / Google Forms. Teacher-led activity designing survey, then students give the class survey to peers. Students will then design an individual survey demonstrating correct use of various question styles & give survey to peers. Students will report results in Excel spreadsheet & create charts based on data.

WEEK 7 -- WORD PROCESSING -- REPORTS -- Teacher guided activity where students download a document, then format it according to MLA guidelines. Students use link to guidelines in Computer Lion website. Students are able to describe four basic requirements and apply them to new material. Quiz (a few points written, a few points performance-based).

WEEK 8 / 9 -- PHOTOGRAPHY -- Students will use school cameras and/or personal devices to take photos of architecture in our building. Rules & expectations discussed. Students will manipulate digital photos and create their own first names from these photos. Examples given daily, and provided on Computer Lions class website.
